A Question about Membership Sites: How Do You Offer Discounts on Your Other Products to Your Members Only???

I just got a super question from Susan. She is about to launch her new Membership Site and has a question that may have crossed your mind. Thanks so much for your email. SO excited to hear that you are setting up your own membership site. This is a super question!

I use a great shopping cart with my websites called WP Estore. It is a plugin that works with WordPress Sites. Here is my link to learn more about it:

So, back to your question…

I set up a coupon code through my WP-Estore in each of my sites that is a code just for members of my membership site. I post it on the membership site with details so they have access to it at their convenience. I use the same code for each of my website estores so they only have to have one code to save them money on any of my products.

Pay-Per-Click Articles or Information Products?

Today is simply delightful! It is gorgeous outside. I am snug-as-a-bug in Starbucks, editing audios. LOVE THIS LIFE!!

I just got a super question in my email from Katherine. In fact, Katherine’s question is one that I have heard several times the past few months. I thought that some of you might want to grab a cup of tea and peek into our discussion. So, here we go…

Sorry I took so long getting back to you. I’ve about decided that I need a day job for a while to handle business-building expenses.

What’s your opinion on writing pay-per-click articles? Do they have any potential to pay as well as downloadable information products?

How nice to hear from you. I am happy to help.

This is a super question. I have always heard a lot about PPC. My husband has a blog where we tested it a while back. He has never made one penny from it. :(

I have one friend who did make some money using PPC. Of course, she also has tried to build a business and has found that none of her site visitors are buying her actual products. Wonder why? Those ads on her site are pulling potential clients away from HER and HER products. The few pennies that you can make are definitely offset by the great losses—of relationship with your site visitors and time that you could be spending building your own business.

Sooooo, what do I recommend? Two things…

1. I never recommend that my clients link outside of their own sites/ministries/products—not to their mommy pals, not to other businesses, and definitely not to ads for businesses that they do not even know. Build your own name. Build your own website. Build your own products. Promote your own name. Promote your own website. Promote your own products. Don’t re-direct your site visitors ANYWHERE else outside of your own home on the web.

2. The best way to build your business is definitely to build your own name, your own credibility, and your own products. The time that you would spend writing and posting articles for PPC is time that you could be spending building your business–your own website, your mailing list, blogging, podcasting, writing articles, and creating products. This is the only true way to success.

I pray that this year is YOUR year! Get your message out there to the world. Dig in and do what you know. Use those precious moments that you do have left each day to step bit-by-bit toward your dreams.

Ask Cindy: Hiding Directories and Folders in Your Website

Hi Cindy Dear!

I have a questions re uploading products to my page.

I have uploaded a few mp3 files to my page, however, the entire directory shows up and anyone can access it. This is what I mean:

http://Xoxoxoxo.com/Products/

I don’t want anyone to have access to this.

Also, I want to sell these audio messages, so I don’t want them indexed by the search engines. I read the your instructions, I just can’t seem to find out where to paste the NOFOLLOW code since they are not in a page but mp3 files.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Thanks so much for your email. What a great question! AND, a question that I had a while back and had a very hard time finding an answer.

Great news! It is easy to fix this. In fact, we all need to put on our calendar a time to make sure that all of our directories are secure. It is easy to add a new folder/directory and forget to secure it from being indexed–which is what has happened here. Any time that it is not secured, someone can type in the link with the backslash and see everything that is in that directory. Then, all they can do is add those file names to the end and they can access your files. Let’s take a few minutes to secure your files in all of your directories. Here is how you do it:

Login to your CPANEL for your site. Something like this: http://www.TheBizMentor.com/cpanel

Next look for INDEX MANAGER. Click to open.

Then, you will see all available directories/folders. Click on each directory/folder. If you see more directories/folders, then you have more levels that you have to go down (more directories/folders that you have created inside of that particular directory/folder). When you get to the place where it gives the following options, Default System Setting, No Indexes, Standard Indexing (text only), Fancy Indexing (graphics), just choose NO INDEXES and click SAVE.

Do this for each of your directories/folders. Then, your files will not be found this way.

One other thing, so there is no confusion, the NOFOLLOW code is used on your HTML PAGES to keep Google from indexing your private download pages or other pages that you do not want added to the search engines. Hope this makes sense.

AND, yes! Get out there an sell your awesome teaching. You have so much to offer. I am excited to see that you will be adding audios to your business. The sky is the limit! :)

Are you feeling any better now? I hope so and am praying for you!

I wanted to ask how you how I would do a backup of my subscribers (their email addresses) on my subscribers list on Aweber and also is there a way to backup all my Gmail emails? I was thinking the other day that I’ve never written down my subscriber’s email addresses and thought there is probably a way to do that.
