What is Your NEXT Step???

It is a brand new year!

Are you moving strong…or, still stuck?

Are you ready…or, are you a bit reluctant?

Busting at the seams to kick off your New Year…or, are you just sick at the thought of yet another year?

Reaching your resolutions…or…are they already a bust?

Are there things that you would really like to see changed by January 2013? TODAY is the day to make that commitment! If you sincerely want to see change, you have to begin today!

Sunday was a MILESTONE. Did you miss it? It is not too late! Pull away for a bit today. Set your resolutions. Set reachable resolutions.

1. Start with an honest evaluation!

Where are you?
Are you where you want to be?
What do you want?
What do you need?
What is it going to take to get where you want to be?
Are there things that you want to see changed?

Don’t get locked into the same old, same old repetive behaviours. Don’t get stuck in the same old rut. If we are not moving forward, reaching for resolutions, goals, and dreams, we are not living the life that Christ died to give us. Where are you now?

2. Set goals!

Today, set a goal! It is your NEXT STEP. You may not be able to get where you want to go TODAY…or this week…or this month…or even this year. However, don’t let that keep you stuck in a rut!

Today, look at where you want to go. Get a vision! Can you reach it? Do you believe that you can? Well, set goals, steps, to get there. Don’t think it is possible? Well, ask yourself–what IS possible? What do you think you CAN DO? Let’s set goals to get moving toward that! Don’t let yourself get stuck! Set goals that will make your proud!

Test your goals all along the way– is it….

  • Small–Small enough to reach with ONE STEP? Baby steps?
  • Clear–Can you see how to get there or is it still FUZZY? Make sure it is FOCUSED!
  • Purposeful–We must have PURPOSE or otherwise we will fail, fade out, give in to excuses, get distracted, quit, go astray, procrastinate, get off track and misdirected, and GET STUCK!
  • Actionable–A goal that you CAN and WILL dare to take action, massive action, to accomplish NOW. Not a wish. Something that you are READY TO DO.
  • Specific–What, why, and by when? Describe it? Be specific about what you want, why you want it, when you want it done! BE SPECIFIC–the more specific the more likely you will be to reach it!
  • Definable–It isn’t a goal unless you can define what you want. Otherwise, it is just a WISH.
  • Definitive–Get an idea of when you can accomplish it! Set a deadline! No more maybe’s or someday’s. Let’s set a date! Let’s set a deadline of when you can do THIS!
  • Reachable, doable, attainable–No more self-sabotage! Self-sabotage is when we set a goal that we KNOW is just impossible from where we are. We let ourselves down. Then, we get into a place where we don’t believe ourselves any more. Don’t self-sabotage! Set goals that are just out of reach and get moving toward them. You can attain it! You can do it! You can reach it!
  • Realistic–No more pie in the sky goals! Slow down and get realistic! Otherwise, your goals and resolutions will frustrate you and discourage you. You will LOSE your motivation! Let’s set smaller, REAL goals.
  • Measurable–Be EXACT and VERY SPECIFIC about what you want! You need to be able to measure it. Otherwise, you won’t know what is neeeded. Also, you will never know when you have got there!
  • WRITTEN–Write it out! Write it out TODAY! “Goals not in writing are just wishes.” Brain dump! Get those goals out of your head and onto paper! Put them on your calendar. Plan it out–with LOTS OF MARGIN! Put them into your to-do’s each day. Focus on each task until done!

3. Get MOVING!

So many people never even try to reach for their resolutions, goals and dreams.

  • They immediately discard them.
  • They don’t slow down to truly SET THEM.
  • They trip up and quit.
  • They can’t seem to work them in.
  • And, many never get going because they never take that first step.

I have been asking God to show me when I am not moving forward in an area, to help me know that first step, and to give me the power to get moving. That first step is the key! In fact, my preacher said this weekend that the hardest part of working out is “to tie your tennis shoes.” Why? It is that FIRST STEP!

My dear friend, what is that FIRST STEP?

I know it can be scary. I know it can be intimidating. But, today, ask God to show you those areas where you have not been moving forward–building a godly marriage, quiet times, ministering to the hearts of your children, getting out of debt, building a business of your own, getting fit and healthy, getting your home decluttered, etc. Ask Him to show you what He wants for you to do and to show you that first step so you can get up and get moving–He will! Ask him to empower you and give you everything you need as you step out. My sweet friend, HE WILL! Just get started with that first step! GET MOVING!

My dear friend, you have a NEW year ahead of you! It is time for a NEW BEGINNING! Dare to set your resolutions this year. Don’t let this year slip by. You CAN do it! Set those resolutions. Set goals to take you step-by-step toward your resolutions. Keep them before you. MOVE OUT! Celebrate your victories all along the way! You will reach your resolutions one step at a time–what is your step today?

Stuck in a rut???

http://cindyrushton.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Cindy-Fall2011-150x150.jpgIt is that time of year again. We look back. We look at where we are. We look at where we want to go. Of course, in “looking” some of us tend to “bury our head in the sand” so we are not disappointed again.

The past few months, I have heard a similar cry from my coaching clients.

They know their call.
They know their message.
They know exactly who needs their message.
BUT! They are stuck!

So many people don’t reach their goals, resolutions, or dreams. In fact, today many do not even set them because time and time again they have failed. They don’t want that failure yet again. [Read more...]

Marketing and Publicity on a Shoestring??? It IS Possible!

Good morning sweet friends!

Guess what I have been doing all morning? I have been kicked back in my great big recliner with my two sweet little Yorkies getting ready for our seminar tomorrow night. I have never been this excited about a seminar! Let me tell you why….

In case you are not familiar with tomorrow’s seminar, it is on the topic of MARKETING AND PUBLICITY ON A SHOESTRING. It is funny how God puts things on OUR HEARTS that happens to be right on time for those who we minister to.

I have had this seminar on my calendar all year. The past few weeks so many of my clients have been sharing their frustrations in business. Here is the summary of what is keeping them up at night:

1. They are producing their very best content but getting LITTLE or NO results.

2. They are working themselves to the bone and really struggling in business.

3. They have no idea how to reach their prospective customers and get them to respond.

4. Things that have worked in the past are no longer working.

Do you relate?

Well, my sweet friend, you simply CANNOT miss this week’s seminar! In just 3 (maybe 4–smile) hours, we are going to look at how to connect with those who are desperate for your message and get them responding to you. Actually, THAT is marketing and publicity in a nutshell–reach your prospective customers, build a relationship, and get them to respond reliably.

Reach.
Relate.
Respond.

Need help in any of those areas? Well, don’t wait another moment. Plan to join me tomorrow night for one of my most jam-packed seminars EVER! You are certain to leave with a toolbox of ideas that will immediately take your business uplevel. Actually, I think that this seminar is just the CPR that is needed to bring your business back to life. Don’t miss it!

AND, yes! When you purchase access, you will receive access to all of the replays from our session. PLUS! You will receive access immediately to our private members-only page that already has several bonus goodies ready for you to enjoy. AND… I suspect that this particular session is going to also require a bonus session where we open up the lines for a STRATEGY SESSION so we can apply these ideas specifically to YOUR business. You get access to THAT for free AND to those replays too. :)

Ready to Learn How to Market and Publicize Your Business on a SHOESTRING????

“Build it and they will come…”

Heard that?

The actual quote comes from the movie, Field of Dreams. Don’t you think that is interesting? Put in the hard work. Go for the dream. Press in and do it. They will come, right? They will find you, right?

Well, you have YOUR DREAM. You have “built it.” Now what? Don’t they just line up in droves to buy your amazing product?

WHERE ARE THEY?
WHY DON’T THEY BUY???

Probably one of the most common questions that I hear in my business is along this line….

You work hard.
You build your website.
You set up your mailing list.
You work your way up on top of Google.
You get your product ready to go.
You launch.
THEN…that devastating silence.

What happened? How do you get things moving? How do you get the word out? How do you let those who are in desperate need for your message HEAR that it is ready for them? And, an even bigger question–how do you do it on a shoestring budget????

Oh! My dear friend, I have got an evening workshop that is going to transform your business AND ON A SHOESTRING!

When I began my business, I began the whole thing on a shoestring. It is kinda funny. I did not “intend” to begin a business, I intended to begin a ministry. As I look back, I was thrust into business because every ministry that makes it for the “long-haul” has to be run as a business.

I grew up ministering to others. I even grew up helping my mom in her home business. I knew how business worked, but that is not what I “meant” to do with my message. I wanted to minister to the hearts of those who had no idea how to begin reaching for their dreams in marriage, mothering, mentoring, ministry, homeschooling, home business, and even homemaking. I wanted to be sure to keep my heart pure and my motives in check. If I wanted to be “in business” I would have continued my sewing business. Of course, did I mention that although I did not “intend” to begin a business, I was thrust into business.Yep! And, whoever you are, whatever you are producing, YOU are in business as well.

Marketing and publicity are your life-line. They will be THE KEY to your success.

Soak that in…

And, stick with me. :)

Just the word, “Marketing” elicits a wide range of feelings–uncertainty, doubt, overwhelm, exhaustion, insecurity, intimidation and intense fear. Speaking of fear, the idea of marketing brings an onslaught of fears to the surface…

Fear of failure.
Fear of success.
Fear that it will cost a fortune.
Fear that you will spend so much time on marketing that you can’t balance everything else.
Fear others will question your motives. Fear of doing it wrong.
Fear that your customers will abandon you the moment you step up your marketing efforts.

Then, there is the word, “Publicity” and all that it invokes in the typical entrepreneur! :)

Again, marketing and publicity are your life-line. They will be THE KEY to your success. They are the key to getting your message out there to the masses. They are NOT AN OPTION! They are NOT AN EXTRA! They are essential elements in your business each and every day.

The picture that comes to my mind when I think of ministering today is very, very different than the picture that I had back at the beginning. Today, I think of the story in the Bible of Nehemiah as they were rebuilding the walls. If we are going to minister, we have got to be building a business. And, that includes so much more than just sharing our message. It requires that we learn how to produce products that people are looking for, but that is not all. We cannot merely produce products and NOT keep on marketing and publicizing our business. Likewise, we cannot drop the ball on product creation either. We have to build, plant, harvest, uproot, expand, and do it all again.

And, one other thing that I see differently now–I see that if I am going to reach the hurting, the desperate, the seeking, then I am going to HAVE to use the very best techniques and tools to take my message out there TO THEM. That is the very essence of marketing and publicity!

No, you cannot “build it and they will come.” You know that. But, how will they find it? Through professional marketing and publicity. Yep! There is no other way. Of course, before you shy away from that word, “professional,” and run the other way, please note that professional does not have to mean out of your budget. Rather, the very best marketing and publicity ideas are right there at your fingertips and definitely doable on a shoestring budget!

Marketing and Publicity on a Shoestring Budget, REALLY?

Yep! You can spend as much or as little as you want on marketing and publicity. And, really good news–the results are not always dependent on how much you spend. In fact, in today’s marketplace, you can market and publicize your business on a shoestring and get right out there with the big dogs. In fact, many of the big dogs are beginning to try their hand at some of the very things that really work best for those of you in the trenches. Why? Because it is working and working the very best with our reluctant, resistant markets today.

Speaking of reluctant, resistant markets, today business OR ministry cannot be run the same way that it was run 5-10 years ago. Marketing has shifted. It has caught the online business newbies off-guard AND it has caught those old-timers, resistant to growth and change COMPLETELY off-guard. Well, you have probably noticed the shifts. And, unless your head is in the sand, you have heard the uproar.

Plain and simple, marketing DOES shift. You have to be on the cutting edge. At minimum, you MUST connect and learn from those who understand marketing trends and how to respond all along the way.

So, marketing has shifted again and not really the way that some would have you think. It is not something completely new. Those who have an eye for marketing shifts KNOW what happened and could have predicted it long ago. The problem is that the internet is no longer mesmerizing the public. The internet has become as every-day as the corner store. Today, marketing has shifted back around to demanding that we bring some of those timeless marketing tools into the 21st Century. If we want to be on the cutting edge, we have to get back to the old, tried and true paths that are essential to building a profitable and very successful business. BUT at the same time we can’t get stuck there, we have to embrace and implement the fresh new ideas that are just perfect for our particular product and service. All along the way, we cannot get stuck. We have to stay on the move. We have to keep our “finger on the pulse” of our customers and prospects.

We have so much at our fingertips. Today, we have access to the same tools and techniques that the big dogs have. Of course, if you will notice, they have some limitations that we don’t have. We are all on common ground. The internet has busted the “ivory towers.” Desktop publishing has opened up the doors that were shut to all but a few “golden children” just a few years ago. Everything has shifted, but the good news is that YOU can build your business and ministry on a shoestring budget and take it out there to those who are crying out for your ideas, answers, hope, and encouragement.

YOU have the edge!

The very best marketing and publicity ideas are truly just a matter of using what you have got in your hand already–your heartbeat, your brain, your mouth, and your message. All you need after that is a plan of action to get out there and reach those who are needing what you have to offer. That is where I come in….

Unplug!

We just got back from a fabulous trip to Italy. Ok, soak this in…VENICE! Oh! YEAH!

On this trip, I was able to check off three, yes three, of my biggies on “My Bucket List.” It was a spectacular trip! And, it was more than just the trip or the place, God was speaking to my heart the whole way. In fact, He is still teaching me lessons from Italy and we have been home a week! :) Just today, He taught me another lesson as I opened my laptop! REALLY! Well, stick with me….

Before I left for Italy, I was on stress overload. I was hoping that Italy would be my “catch-up” time. Well, OBVIOUSLY I had never travelled abroad, much less to Italy. Ha! Italy was perfect for my stress overload. I was forced to getaway, refresh, renew, unplug, and make sweet memories. It was incredible. In fact, I am forever changed from my trip to Italy–more on that in a bit.

BUT! I got NOTHING done.

Nothing.

All of those outlines, the research, and preparation are still there in my iPad–untouched…COMPLETELY. I didn’t get to work on any of my editing, writing, and definitely not any of my websites and web projects that are long, long, long overdue. Oh, let’s open up that iPad and give you a complete glimpse inside–I didn’t even get to watch the long list of movies and TV shows or read any of the new books on my Kindle app that I downloaded for the long flight. :D

Nope! I was as unplugged as I guess I could handle without getting stressed out–there was a period of 48 hours that I had NO INTERNET, NO EMAIL, NO TEXTING that was beginning to test me and I am so glad it was the last 48 hours of the trip.

Unplugged.

Well, except for only a few emergency emails and updates on Facebook so my family would not worry (and so they could kind of “take the trip” with me through photographs). Just those things ate up my battery charge for the day and the internet time I was allotted.

This was SO good for me!

I needed this getaway. It was just perfect! I got the perfect amount of rest, the perfect amount of romance (Well, I could always stand more of that but this was VENICE so you can imagine that I am just a romance-addict if I wanted more!!!), the perfect amount of going, the perfect amount of socialization (and new awesome friends!), the perfect amount of planning, the perfect amount of exercise, and even the perfect amount of Italian food, even Gelato (REALLY–I lost 7.5lbs!!).

Of course, that life-changing lesson that I mentioned earlier is what was really perfect and right on time.

Go back to when that lesson began. Right before the trip, I was on stress overload. Not really because of my calendar, which has been a problem before but I am always watching out for this one. Not really because of my mind, which has a tendency to take things way too serious and get way too analytical for my own good. It was not even because I was not managing stress well. It was all of the STUFF hitting me.

I did well. Looking back, I am amazed that I am not sitting in the corner somewhere rocking myself. That month before the trip was one of my all-time most stressful months ever. If you look at the list of life-stressers, I had almost all of them going on in the course of one month. SCARY! But, the hardest part was not all of the change, letting go, keeping on moving forward, feeling mushy (ALL OF THE TIME), it was the little things that just kept on pushing me when I was needing to get a grip on my totally new normal!

Have the little things? Of course!

That is what I noticed just a few minutes ago when I turned on the computer for the day. Well, first let me go back to my lesson…

Again, before the trip, I think the stress could best be pictured as a hurricane. Growing up in South Mississippi, I KNOW hurricanes. The devastation can come from the hurricane as a whole, but normally it is the little things that bring the most devastation–the floods, the tornadoes, the hail, the winds. In fact, when you are smack-dab-in-the-middle of the hurricane, things can seem very peaceful.

This is where I was as my husband began Law School, my daughter got married and moved to South Dakota with her husband (GO AIR FORCE!), our house was hit by a storm (still have the tree on the house), and on and on (this does not touch the list of things going on that month). It was not any of the big things that were stressing me out. I am very accustomed to life and having to roll with the flow. What was wearing away at me was all of the “life clutter” that was wearing away at me. The little things. The little crisis situations. The melt-downs (not by me or those I would expect). The constant push and pull. The messes everywhere SEEMING to need me to fix them.

Feel my pain?

Felt this yourself?

They were the things that were stressing me out.

I could not clearly see what was really bothering me in the midst of the storm. I just gave it all to the Lord. I know that is always the best thing to do, but it was a bit different. I was so overwhelmed that I didn’t know what else TO DO. I knew that He would take care of everything and give me a peace that He had given sooo many other times before. And, He did. Well, along with a big lesson that I am not going to forget very easily.

Ready for that lesson?

If I want to live the life of my dreams, I am going to have to get rid of the little distractions, annoyances, stresses that are stealing away time, energy, focus, and clarity.

Things went on without me. This means two things:

1. If I can cut out as much as possible, I will have more time, energy, focus, and clarity to truly step up to the call God has for me.

2. These little things are stealing away more than just my calling, they are stealing away MY LIFE.

God has already been asking me for MONTHS to evaluate all that I do in the light of whether it is really important, vital, eternal. He has been asking me whether my options were trash, trinkets, or treasures. I have been getting that lesson down deep into the “crooks and crannies” of my heart and mind. The problem was in how to clean up things so that I don’t have so many distractions and little stresses. THAT is the part of the lesson that I want to share with you.

IF we are going to be able to work with focus, clarity, and intention, we MUST get rid of these crazy stresses in our lives–the little things. Oh! We might think that we can handle them, but can we? Really?

Do we find ourselves always stressed out?

Do we always feel pushed, pulled, about to fall apart?

Do we wonder where our time is going ALL THE TIME?

Do we wonder why we are not getting around to those things to do that help us reach for our dreams?

Do we wonder why we cannot seem to live the life that we THOUGHT we could live?

The trip to Italy gave me a clarity that I have been needing for a while. I know that I cannot control the changes that come in my life. I know that seasons will come and seasons will go–I embrace that! I know that there are always going to be choices that have to be made. I am good with all of that. However, sometimes I find myself almost drowning with the life clutter and I cannot even see it for what it is. This was one of those times.

So for today, my action steps for today are:

1. Relax. Do first things first–MY FIRST THINGS! IF there is time, energy, and clarity of mind left over, THEN I will allow someone else’s FIRST THINGS into my day. If not, I will take time for ME–quiet time, time for a walk, time for a jog, time for the gym, time to bake, time to scrapbook, time for romance, or even time for a nap. Those are the things that fill me up again and give me MORE to give out tomorrow. They MUST come before crisis situations, shiny objects, melt-downs, and, definitely, BUSYNESS! :)

2. No more allowing the constant crisis situations to rule my schedule. (!!!!) Do you know that NOTHING absolutely HAD TO HAVE ME while I I was in Italy? NOTHING. I have got to remember what Harold says all of the time, “Someone else’s crisis does not mean that it is MY emergency.” If I want to be able to really get things done, I am going to have to keep my eyes on the mark and not get distracted so easily!

3. People DO NOT have to have ME. (Sobering huh?) Sometimes the very best thing for them is running into that wall. They NEED to come to that place that I have come sooo often–where only God will do. That is my greatest secret to success. THAT is what I really want to teach others with my websites, my blogs, my books, my teachings, and even my social networks. He IS the best teacher, the best mentor, the best comforter, the best shepherd. There will be times that He will use me. However, I can rest, relax, and pull away without fear that life on the planet will unravel without me. HELLO!

4. Yes. I CAN turn off the computer for more than one day–not answering emails as they come in! TOUGH, TOUGH, TOUGH–but the 48 hours of being blacked-out showed me that life does go on without me and I can always say I am sorry–however, I cannot get back what really matters if I miss it! No. I will not go out of business just because I go out of town or take a break. (My systems like my shopping cart, autoresponders, and WordPress are made for things like this!) I think that my biggest thing to do right now is to regularly UNPLUG. When I do, if there are things that blow up and go crazy, then THOSE are things that I need to troubleshoot so I can find systems or maybe even help/helpers that will fill that void regularly–who knows, maybe even daily. What WOULD it be like if I could simplify to such a level that I can really stick to only the things that really matter? Just HOW productive COULD I BE??? Hummm….

5. All of those offers on the internet (or mail) are not what I need TODAY or probably any time soon. And, enough is enough! I can unsubscribe from all of this extra email, miss a few webinars, and de-stress! :) I can also save up my money and invest it into what I really need NEXT. Noble thought, huh?

Yes. This trip had an incredible impact in my life. It is SO worth every penny we spent going away. It is SO worth the time we spent preparing to go. It taught me a life-lesson that is already impacting every area of my life–to UNPLUG.

Just UNPLUG!

I will be unplugging more and more so I can live the life of my dreams because TODAY IS THE DAY!

What are YOUR action steps today?

What will you do today so you can truly live the life of your dreams–TODAY????

Pruning to Take Your Business UPLEVEL!

Pruning.Yep!

Pruning your business? Absolutely!

Pruning your business to take it uplevel? Yes! Yes! Yes! Absolutely essential! Stick with me.

Some of you have been following me for years and years. You have probably seen times when I “pruned” things and other times when God obviously did it because I was a bit reluctant or downright resistant (He is exceptional at pruning because He knows how much is on the horizon and how sweet, fulfilling, life-changing, purpose-living that it is!).

I don’t know about you, but I have found that either way, whether *I* prune or God prunes, it is so heart-wrenching.

I LOVE WHAT I DO!

I love the projects. I love the to-do’s. I love the ministry opportunities. I love the tools I use.

Pruning hits THOSE. That is never easy!

Pruning is always tough. It requires that we prune back “branches” that we may have grown to love intensely. It requires that we even prune branches that are producing some fruit, but nonetheless still taking sap, energy, and focus from other branches that need to grow and can truly produce bigger, sweeter, better, and more nutritious fruit.

I want the bigger, sweeter, more nutritious, and better fruit. My big problem is that I ALSO have a tendency to want the small fruit too. I don’t want to “lose” it in the process. However, that is NOT how pruning works. You can’t have it all. You have to choose. Lots of little fruit or prune for the big fruit, the better fruit.

Ever had to prune? Then, you know how tough it is. Haven’t been there yet? Well, it IS FALL! :)

I really endeavor to surrender my life on a daily basis so that if there is anything in me, my life, my home, my business that needs pruning then I won’t just fall to pieces when God pulls out the pruning shears. Get it myself before HE gets it! ha!

Well, for the past year (well, four years), I have seen Him prune some pretty big things, precious things, profitable things–my “babies” that I had grown to be part of ME. I KNEW big things were on the horizon, but I just could not tell what exactly. I thought (TWICE) it was a national TV show. It still may be, but it was not the one that I THOUGHT it was going to be. Even after that I still felt change and NEW in the air. I knew that I was moving into a new season of my life and OH! have I–I am now not only a mom but my children have both married and now I am a mother-in-love, AND grammy! Harold and I are officially empty-nesters. Getting here was not fun, but I LOVE this season of my life already. It is the very best EVER but it is demanding NEW THINGS of me daily. I also knew that there were a few things in my life that needed to be removed personally to set me free to go for all that Christ died to give me in this new season of life. And, I am thrilled to see some open doors that are already a result of letting God loose in those areas, and I am already 20lbs lighter physically to boot! (This time THAT is staying off!)

What does this mean?

It means that pruning can take on several faces. Pruning may affect any and all areas of your business…

Your projects
Your to-do’s
Your tools
Your commitments
Your ministries
Your websites
Your ezines
Your ecourses
Your coaching services

BUT! That may not be ALL that God is after! :) He may want to prune even deeper, even more aggressively…

Your schedule
Your habits
YOUR LIFESTYLE!
Your relationships
Your relationship with HIM
Your spirit
Your body
Your mind
Your emotions (and that attitude)
Your will

Yep! He just might be pruning in any or all of that because there is something HUGE that He wants for you!

Yesterday I left for church with one prayer on my heart. I had missed church for two weeks while we were out of the country in Italy. I had SOOoo missed my church. I wanted for God to speak anew yesterday. I came home from Italy renew, revived, re-charged and with a new fire under my tail. Back-up and I will give you a glimpse in “short-story” over my past year leading up to our trip to Italy….

I mentioned earlier that I was given an opportunity to be on a national TV Show. I was jazzed! I have had a vision for television for years, but could not see how it could happen. I had a few barriers and the biggest was that I was battling with my weight (I call it my final frontier! ha!). This show was a weight loss show. Talk about looking perfect. NOT. I got down to a week before flying out, got the call to go, and never heard another thing. TWICE. Well, never heard anything but that the networks went a different direction–TWICE! Pruned!

In getting ready for the show, I had streamline everything so my family could run all of my affairs while I would be gone for up to 9 months–my home, my daily life, my business, my social commitments, and even my pets (which were my biggest concern! :) ) In doing this, I simplified (aka–pruned back as many “branches” to manageable as possible without cutting them totally off) and God even showed some things that were past their season and ready to prune completely or pass the torch to others (yep, I pruned some little things and some “big babies”).

As the year went by, God pruned even more. I found myself in a position that I have been in two other times–both times when my “life” season was changing and when God was ruthless with pruning. I say two times, but I remember the call one other time as a little girl as well. God was moving me live a life of absolute surrender so I could go to a place in my life that I could not SEE, the place of promise. Each and every season, He has required total surrender and total trust. I am talking about surrender and trust that requires radical faith. The good news is that this time I KNOW that He is about to do something HUGE. I KNOW that as precious as these things are, if He is pruning THEM then He has something awesome on the horizon!

So, fast-forward through the year with me. I have been sooo ready for God to get moving with the NEW THING. :) I have felt all throughout the year like a child who is helping their mom get ready for a rummage sale–seeing all of my old-time favs and many of my newest “trinkets” being gathered up and moved out some for sale and some for trash. (THAT is pruning on a different level! :) ) I know that “room” HAD to be made this time–I had too many things going on to add ANYTHING to my day–there was NO ROOM in this “Inn” for anything else. I am glad to say that I am OK with letting things go since I KNOW God has never failed me even one time before–it has always been better, sweeter, and bigger. He has always moved me into a place where I can do more for His glory. It has always been good and kept me on the cutting edge. I am good with it all.

BUT! This time has been a bit different.

How? He has been pruning, pruning, pruning. And, for the past 12 months He has asked me to just BE STILL and wait on Him. That is all I have heard for 12 straight months! BE STILL! Really??? If you think this isn’t maddening, get on edge, ready to jump, and hear the words, “BE STILL!” UGH! Of course, this is where it gets sweet!

A few weeks ago, He woke me up and almost verbally told me it was almost time to move out and get moving toward my ultimate calling that was going to be established in this season of my life.

Then, we left for Italy. I worked for months to prepare for our trip. I knew that I would have time while Harold prepared to shoot the World Championship for Field Target. I planned to make that time count. I had outlines, quotes, brainstorms–everything I needed–ready to go. I even had a very generous schedule to make some big things happen. And, guess what? I didn’t do ANY OF IT! Nope! Between the internet being very in and out and having limited electricity (trying keeping all of my gadgets charged with what I had), I finally surrendered to just rest, relax, renew, and re-charge while I was in Italy.

THAT is where everything began to break loose…

The stress that I didn’t even realize that I had been carrying around. It was literally falling off of me!

The ties to so many of my “precious projects” that I could not see were binding me–I THINK that I am surrendered, but there was a grief over those things passing away that was holding me back from moving forward.

Speaking of grief, I was breaking loose of my grief that I didn’t know I had over the “loss” of my past season of life (I LOVED having teens and young adults in my home!) as I was moving into my new season of life (the empty nest).

Italy is a super trip for anyone. I think EVERYONE should plan a trip to Italy. In fact, one aspiration that I have is to go back regularly just for the getaway. I am even brainstorming whether to purchase another home there. REALLY! Wonder why? Because it was the perfect getaway for me to pull away, unplug, and let God loose to really re-charge me. There was something about being half the world away that gave me a clarity in my vision of what is really important and what is not. I could see clearly the WHOLE of my life so far mixed with where I want to be when I take my final breath. The whole trip was fantastic–checking off 3 biggies of my big “Bucket List,” enjoying a really romantic time with Harold, meeting so many incredible people, and getting out of my little old world. However, want to know what made it all spectacular? It was meeting God there and HEARING HIM for my next few steps. I am MOVING again! :)

Ok…why tell you all of this?

IF you are not reaching for your dreams, stepping up to your call, writing that book, or producing that product that is on your heart, ask yourself, “IS THERE SOMETHING TO PRUNE?” Maybe as you read my story, God was bringing to your mind some of your “babies” that need to be surrendered, laid down, and given wholly to Him. Maybe as you read my story, God was moving on your heart that you have been here, in this place, for long enough and it is time to get moving again. My sweet friend, I KNOW with complete faith that….

1. You can trust God wholly! He has only GOOD THINGS on the horizon for you. Don’t believe ME? Just look at Jeremiah 29:11…

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Check it out in The Message:

I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.

You may have had a very bad and disastrous past, but my sweet friend, the good news today is that God has a very, very good future for you. The future you could only HOPE for.

Today, the question is whether we will “yoke up” with Him and choose THAT future or if we will keep on drifting through every day, settling for what the day just gives us. Oh! Today is the day to get up and get moving toward your future, your hope!

Well, before I get too excited, let me share one other thing that I KNOW.

2. Surrender leads us to TRUE LIFE. There is something in each of us that just holds on to things long after their time, their season. Want to know what that is? It is eternity. It is the eternity inside of us. Take a peek at Ecclesiastes 3: 11…

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He also has planted eternity in men’s hearts and minds [a divinely implanted sense of a purpose working through the ages which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy], yet so that men cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.

This passage is a continuation of the beloved passage about time and seasons. Right on topic, huh?

I SO see this clearly. There is a time and a season for everything and for every purpose under heaven. I know that it is hard to move away from the times and seasons that we love, maybe not so difficult to move from the times and seasons where we suffer or struggle, but I DO KNOW that it is often very difficult to lift up everything to God in loving surrender. I battle it just like you. However as difficult as it is, it is worth it! The “Promised Land” before you is worth it. The “fruit” in the next season is worth it. If you just step out, you will find that it is sweet, it is incredible, it is fulfilling, and it is satisfying. It is REALLY LIVING. It is living that life that Christ died to give you–full, abundant, lavish, meaningful, purposeful, and satisfying. Living. Really living. LIVING TRUE LIFE.

So today, sweet friend, have you been wandering in the desert for far too long? Have you sensed that God wanted you to get ready to move out, but you have been sitting, sitting, sitting still for far too long? Have you seen Him pruning in your life and I mean pruning you to the core? Wondering, “What MORE does He want before He gets my life in motion again?”

Today, join me in surrender to the pruning shears. FULL SURRENDER. Is there something yet to prune? Is there something that you have been holding on to? Have you been resisting Him, even in a little way? Today lay it down in full surrender. Lay it down regardless of what you think it will cost you or others–remember that GOD would not ask that of you if it was not going to be GOOD! And, step out there moving toward the mark of the high calling of Jesus Christ. Will you join me?

I think that the perfect end to this post is a song that we sang in worship yesterday. Take a moment to settle everything around you so you can spend this time with just YOU AND GOD. If it takes playing this song over and over, take whatever time is necessary to fully surrender E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G to God.

Then, jump into the discussion here. Share what God is doing in YOUR LIFE, what He spoke through this post, or maybe even what you have been struggling with. I am here for you. You are not alone–well, unless you want to be! :) I am here for you. I will intercede on your behalf or I will be here cheering you on all along the way. Just connect! :)

Ok, before that…ready? Let’s fully surrender….

Let’s Take Action–MASSIVE ACTION!

How is your week going?
Did you move forward?
Are you taking it easy on yourself?

If you are a little stressed or distressed, take a few moments and pull back, relax, refresh, and get a different perspective.

Can you see what you DID get done?
Can you see all that you HAVE gotten done?

One thing that helps me A LOT is when I keep a list of the big AND little things that I am doing along the way. Yep! I take all of those things that WERE on my “To-Do List” AND the things that never made it to the list but I did each day, I put them all on a list. That list is my PERSPECTIVE. It always helps me to do one of the most important things I can do for ME—to give myself a break.

So, let me ask those questions again…

How is your week going?
Did you move forward?
Are you taking it easy on yourself?

I am BEYOND excited about what YOU are going to accomplish this year, this month, this week! You can do it! This is YOUR YEAR! This is YOUR MONTH! This is YOUR WEEK!

What will you do to make yourself feel proud? Are you going to take action? Are you going to take MASSIVE ACTION?

Oh! Let’s rock it! I KNOW that you can do it. And, I am cheering you on all along the way!

5 Essential Elements to Successful Websites by Cindy Rushton

Your website is absolutely essential. It is absolutely important. It will make or break your business. So, let’s look at 5 essential elements of every successful website…

1. Focused–If you want a successful website, you must be focused. The website must have a purpose. It must be very clear. It must clearly communicate the purpose.

CHECK-UP:
What are you all about?
Does your website focus on your message? Does it communicate your purpose?
When a visitor comes to your website, does your site clearly communicate what you are all about?

2. THE Go-To Site--There are thousands of websites on the internet on any given topic. Wondering how you can set yourself apart? Want to know the secret to propelling yourself into your niche? Become THE “Go-To” site on your topic. Become the “Go-To” person. Become THE SPOT to find help on that topic. Set up your site as the ONE STOP SPOT to find everything a person needs on that topic. Fill your site with articles, audios, videos, and downloads on that topic. Provide everything that a person will need in a convenient, clear format.

CHECK-UP:
How can you set yourself apart?
What are you offering on your topic?
Is it easy to find on your site?
Are you developing information that gives your readers everything that they need on that topic?
Brainstorm everything that is needed on your topic and begin developing your site into THE Go-To Site.

3. Growing–Now, repeat after me–”I will never be finished with my site.” Want a site that is a success? It must be growing at all times. Every successful website has a plan for adding new, fresh content–articles, blog posts, audio podcasts, video podcasts, regular downloads, etc. The best sites are always growing.

CHECK-UP:
What is your plan to consistently add content to your site–will you blog? Will you create videos? Will you offer a podcast? Will you offer regular downloads?

4.Connected–Fifteen years ago, a website could be developed and just offer information about a company. Today, a site MUST connect with the visitors and keep the visitors connected with the site. There must be an intentional plan for staying connected–mailings lists, eCourses, events, classes, podcasts, RSS feed, blog discussion (back and forth), and social networking. With so many options for daily perusal, we MUST be connected with our visitors or they will not likely find us on a regular basis–if ever.

CHECK-UP:
Essentials first–do you offer a mailing list on your site?
What are you offering your site visitors so they can stay connected with you–is it obvious when they arrive at your site?
How many ways do you have for a guest to stay connected?
What can you add to your site today?

5. Friendly and Welcoming–So many people feel intimidated when setting up an online presence. This intimidation can make our writing seem dull and lifeless if we are not careful. Again, people want a connection when they come to a website. They want to get to know other REAL PEOPLE who love the same topic that they love. More than likely, if they arrive at your site, they are interested in the same topic as you, so the big essential is to be friendly and welcome the visitor. The more friendly, welcoming and authentic our site, the more likely people will stay there and keep coming back.

CHECK-UP:
How does your site feel when a visitor comes to your site?
Can they SEE YOU and YOUR FACE on your site–yep, are your pictures and videos there?
Can they hear your voice in your writing and through podcasts and videos?
Are you letting people into YOUR LIFE through your website–there is a reason that a website is called “Your HOME on the Web”–are you hospitable?

So, how are you doing? Do you have any ideas that can help you to freshen up your website? I pray so.

Why not leave a comment and share some things that you are going to do today to take your website uplevel?

Is Your Year On Track??? Stay Motivated!

Good morning sweet friends! How is your day going? I am snuggled up this morning with puppy dogs! They are sooo adorable! I came in here and Lacie, my Yorkie came running up to me. She pulled the blanket over my feet and stood back looking at me. Now, to get the PICTURE, Lacie is only 3lbs. It took everything in her to drag that blanket across my feet.  She sent a strong message that she was ready to work by pulling that blanket across my feet. I looked at her and asked her if she was ready to work and I pulled the blanket on over my body. She sat on my feet and looked up eagerly at me–that is the BIG HINT that she is ready to work. I just love it! She is a darling!

Sooooo, now, I am snug-as-a-bug with Lacie and Pooh. Ready for our mom-to-mom time here! Ready to dig in?

Well, today, we continue our series called, IS YOUR YEAR ON TRACK??? If this is your first day here on the blog, don’t miss the other posts in this series. You can find them here:

1, SET YOUR PACE
2. LIVE
3. BALANCE!
4. OVERCOME OBSTACLES
5. WORK WITH MOMENTUM!!

My heartbeat with this blog is not to just “run my mouth” each day, but to really come alongside of you and help you to be inspired, encouraged, and equipped for your calling. Dig in to these posts. Share your takeaways. Let’s run our race together.

Speaking of that, are you ready for today’s post? This one is super special to me because this has been a big key for ME this year.

Last year, I hit a wall. I had been really moving forward with my goal to get fit and healthy. I had lost over 66lbs, ran two 5Ks, and had a total overhaul to my lifestyle. Then, I hit the wall.

I can’t fuss about this wall, because it taught me MORE about myself, my life, and how to reach for my dreams than anything I had ever experienced. I know that we do not like walls, plateaus, or curve balls, but they really do teach us the very best lessons in life. This one taught soooo much. And, probably the biggest thing I learned from it was how to get and stay motivated even when you hit the wall, even when you are stuck at that plateau (or rut), and even when you get that dirty curve ball. Motivation in KEY!

Our success in EVERYTHING is very dependent upon our motivation…

We can’t buy it.
We can’t borrow it.
We can’t fake it!
Others can’t give it.
Others can’t force it!

If it is not there, we will NOT stay the course and reach toward the mark! If we don’t have motivation, we will not stay on track.

Whatever we do, especially something new, something overwhelming, something that is big, we are going to battle with motivation!

Motivation is KEY!

If the devil can frustrate us, we will not stay the course, we will not stay on track. If we don’t keep our WHY in front of us, we will go back to default! We MUST be motivated or it will NOT happen, we will not reach for our dreams! We MUST stay motivated or we will let our dreams just die away!

Yes, this is key! This is our next big secret to keeping our year on track–

6. Motivate Yourself!

I love it! But, wondering how on earth to motivate yourself? Maybe you are stuck and wondering how to get back up and get going again. Maybe you are so discouraged that the thought of “motivating yourself” is just totally overwhelming. Well, stick with me. I have some tips that have helped me tremendously this year. And, I am back on track with my health and fitness AND even counting down to my next 5K on April 30th. :) Let’s dig in…

MOTIVATE YOURSELF–PLAN.

The only way that we will stay motivated is if we are staying on course! The only way to do that is to PLAN FOR IT!

Wanting to get fit–you have got to plan! You have got to have those clothes ready, you have got to have that gym membership, you have got to have that time in your schedule… IT DOES NOT JUST HAPPEN! AND, without plans, everything will work against it! PLAN IT! Plan it first in your schedule! Plan it into each and every day!

Want to have that time with God–you have GOT TO PLAN! You have got to know what you want to do each day, you have got to get everything together ahead of time, you have got to schedule that time where you can concentrate and not be rushed….YOU HAVE GOT TO PLAN IT! OR, you KNOW that the devil is going to work against it!

Want to grow closer to your husband–YOU HAVE GOT TO PLAN! You have got to plan it into a NON-NEGOTIABLE time of your week/day…you have got to plan so you have time and energy for him…you have got to plan so that everything else is on auto-pilot…OR you know that everything will go haywire. PLAN IT!

On and on…

Want to minister to your children?
Want to develop a friendship?
Want time for your business? To write that book? Etc.
Want time to declutter, clean out, or remodel your home?

What do you want?

Sweet friend, you have got to plan! If you don’t plan, the default, the same-old-same-old that you have been getting, is what you will get! PLAN!

MOTIVATE YOURSELF–SET GOALS–DAILY!

Back to my lessons from last year, I found that my biggest key to staying motivated was to set goals EVERY DAY!

Little goals!

Maybe to spend more time on the elyptical.
Maybe to set a faster pace on my run.
Maybe to set a higher incline on the treadmill.

Oh! I am not talking about a vast goal. I am not even talking about something extravagant. I am talking about setting LITTLE GOALS!

As I reached those goals each day, I felt a satisfaction that motivated me to keep on keeping on! Each day I was excited to reach for the next goal. Funny thing, each day, I was setting bigger and bigger goals. But, they were realistic, doable, actionable, measurable, specific, clear, and definitive. I could DO IT! That was the key to really pealing off the weight. It was also the key to staying motivated. When I let my goals go, everything unraveled from there. Funny thing, all it took was just a little discouragement by people who “poo-poo’d” my goals and dreams. Talk about a big, big lesson!

Don’t let anyone discourage you from moving forward. Set those goals. Get moving. All it takes is step-by-step. You will get there! SET GOALS DAILY!!!

MOTIVATE YOURSELF–SET DEADLINES!

We NEED deadlines! Deadlines will…

Keep you unstuck.
Keep you on task.
Keep you moving.
And, most of all, keep you MOTIVATED!!

Of course, if we use them properly!Deadlines must be–
Clear–SET THE DATE.
REASONABLE–Allow plenty of time. No super-woman here! You need to be able to reach your deadline. Also, you can’t quit living in other areas of life while you reach for your deadline in one area. So, stay reasonable when setting deadlines.
FIRM–Nothing can put you under the fire like making it happen by a specific time/date. Be firm!

REWARDED–Of course! Countdown to a real, substantial, and motivating reward!

Want to be and stay motivated? SET DEADLINES! Here is how I do it:

1. Brainstorm/Brain-Dump!
Put all goals, steps and ideas on paper. Dump it all out of your brain onto paper. Write out all that you want to do, all that you want to accomplish. Just dump it out!

2. Get a vision!
Can you see it? Get it clear in your head!Write it out–get it clear on paper. What will it be like? What will it look like? What will it feel like?

3. Put each step on the calendar!
Pick out one thing to work on right now. Brainstorm out all that needs to be done. Put each step on your calendar.

4. Set aside time each day to work on it!
NON-NEGOTIABLE TIME! SET APART! WE set our schedules. WE really get done what we really want done. No excuses, if you want this, set aside time each and every day to work on it!

5. Check for Progress!
Have a set time to evaluate and check for progress! If you are behind–catch up! If you are not moving or getting around to it–check to see if you need a clearer vision or more specific tasks or to fire yourself up! Check your progress.

6. Keep on moving!
How do you eat an elephant? ONE BITE AT A TIME! Little steps get you there. Don’t forget it.

7. Reward Yourself!
REWARD YOURSELF WELL! When you reach your deadline, give yourself a big treat.

Yes, my sweet friend, SET DEADLINES! We NEED deadlines if we are going to keep ourselves motivated. We NEED deadlines if we want to stay on track. We NEED deadlines if we are going to get things done that really matter!

MOTIVATE YOURSELF–FOCUS ON ONE THING UNTIL DONE!

Ahhhh! The power of FOCUS! Nothing can chill your motivation quite like failure or delayed success. Want to be motivated? Want to STAY motivated?

FOCUS!

Focus on ONE THING! Give it your ENTIRE focus. Give it your ENTIRE EFFORT. Then, FEEL the Success. That success will create an enthusiasm and excitement that will hunger for MORE. THEN, do the next thing! Do the next thing with focus until it is all done!

Then, look back in a year to YOUR story of productivity–you will reach those goals, you will get things done, you will reach for your dreams, and most fun–you will be motivated to do MORE!!!

THEN, look back in 10-20-30 years with contentment, satisfaction at a life that counts! I LOVE IT!
FOCUS! You will stay motivated!

MOTIVATE YOURSELF–KEEP MOVING!

There is something about getting started that seems to trigger the enemy to look our direction. He assaults us with every weapon in his arsenal. AND, if he can get us to STOP, QUIT, PULL BACK, GO A DIFFERENT DIRECTION, then he will use that weapon EVERY TIME we step out to do something.

Turn with me to 2 Corinthians 4.

THE MESSAGE:
16-18So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.

Want to keep your year on track?
Want to make every day count?
Want to stay motivated?

Don’t stop–regardless of how tough things get. It is ONLY FOR A LITTLE WHILE!

Don’t quit–you cannot imagine what is on the other side!!! It IS worth it!

Shrug off the bad days!
Get back on the program!
Stick it out!
KEEP ON MOVING!

MOTIVATE YOURSELF–SHAKE THINGS UP!

Hit those plateaus? I sure have! I have hit plateaus in every area of my life–spiritual, financial, weight, homeschooling, even in my marriage, parenting, friendships. What do you do then? How do you keep on moving? How do you stay motivated?
Don’t quit! Don’t get discouraged! Don’t slow down!

SHAKE THINGS UP!

Change things up–

  • Business–why not update that website, get busy on that project that you have been putting off, clean out your office, or even find a new place to take your laptop to work?
  • Workouts–why not try something new, why not get out of the gym and hit a pretty running trail, why not try a different time of day, why not workout with a friend, why not join a class?
  • Quiet times–get a new nook! Get a new version of the Bible! Get a new journal! Get a new study!
  • Homeschooling–try something fresh and new–a new study, that new learning tool that you have been putting off, a new book! Begin a new study! Change up your day a bit–get out!!
  • Marriage–plan a fun surprise for them–cook their favorite meal, get all dolled up, plan a candle-light dinner, plan a movie night–just the two of you (even if it is at home!)!
  • Parenting--let go of the STUFF that distracts and wears all of you out, make time to make sweet memories, plan some focused, uninterrupted time with your child!

CHANGE THINGS UP!

Don’t lose your motivation! Stick it out! It is sooo worth it!

MOTIVATE YOURSELF–GET SUPPORT!

Don’t be a lone ranger!

Take a peek at 1 Peter 5:8

THE AMPLIFIED BIBLE:
8Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [[a]in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.

LIKE A LION! What does that mean? Well, I have been studying the “ways” of lions. They are sooo interesting. It is amazing how the devil operates much like a lion.

A lion does not see like you and I. When he sees a flock of gazelles, he does not see the individual, he only sees a big blob. He is not sure if he is seeing a big, BIG BOOGER or if he is seeing a flock of gazelles. So, what does he do? The same thing the devil does when he sees us, he pounces, he roars, he snarls. His goal is to scare the weaklings so that they take off running. When they run into isolation, then he can devour them.

Sweet friend, our enemy is just like this! He KNOWS the power of the Body of Christ. He wants you and me isolated! And, yes, dear friend, he will do anything to cause you to run in fear away from your support. Then, he can devour you. He will chew you up!

NEVER ISOLATE!

STAY CONNECTED!

We all need to stay connected–with family, friends, our church, with trainers/coaches/teachers/mentors, with groups.

You are not a lone-ranger! You are not designed to be a lone-ranger! Don’t isolate! Connect! Let others in!

If you want to stay motivated and stay on track, you have got to get support and use your support that God has blessed you with!

MOTIVATE YOURSELF–DON’T RUN ON FUMES!

NONE of us can run on empty. We can’t run long on LOW FUEL. We must RE-FILL! But, how?

  • Re-fuel with a daily quiet time! God has designed us with a “God-shaped” vacuum. We need Him! We can have everything else in the world, but without HIM, we run on empty and have NOTHING to offer to others. The neat thing, we don’t just have a vacuum, but God has also provided exactly what we need to bridge that gap–a personal relationship WITH HIM! I love it! If you have been running on fumes, can I ask you how is your relationship with God? Have you ever trusted Him as your Lord and personal Saviour? If not, you will never experience the abundant, lavish life that He designed for you. Nothing else will satisfy. He is SO trustworthy! If you have accepted that personal relationship with God, how is your quiet time? Are you trying to go through life on your own strength? Why not run to our Heavenly Father and let Him fill you back up? It is just what you are looking for! Why not commit to take time with Him each day? Your life can be sooo much more! Why run on fumes? Re-fuel daily!
  • Re-fuel your relationships! How are your relationships doing? Your marriage? Your relationships with your children? Your friendships? Are they vibrant and growing? OR, dried up, withering, and very neglected? Nothing will wear US down like trying to navigate through life alone. Again, we are not designed to be alone and isolated. God has designed us for relationship. Not only does He want for us to pour into others, but He also wants for us to let others pour into our lives. It is sooo fulfilling to pour into one another. It is also exhausting to try to live as an island to ourselves. Why not commit to re-fuel those relationships? Talk about some motivation!
  • Re-fuel YOU! We can’t keep on going, going, going without re-fueling. We are designed in the image of God. He designed us with a need to pull aside regularly to re-fuel. We have to re-fuel our emotions, our minds (brain!), our hearts, and even our bodies. NONE of us are super-woman! We will run out. We will burn out. We have got to take good care of ourselves if we want to be strong women who are faithful to our call. Re-fuel!

Sweet friend, offer up your cup and let God fill it back up! Let God flow through you–you KNOW the difference! It is time to re-fuel! Unless we do, we will lose steam. We will lose that motivation. We will get off track! Sweet friend, don’t run on fumes!

MOTIVATE YOURSELF–PUSH PAST THE SLUMPS!

You are going to hit them! KNOW IT! Don’t think that YOU are an exception. We ALL hit the slumps. This does not make us a failure. This does not mean that we will not have a year that counts. This does not mean that we will never reach for our dreams. No!

Slumps come! Don’t let them get you down!Don’t let them stop you!

Dig in and push past those slumps!

MOTIVATE YOURSELF–GETAWAY!

I remember years ago listening to a FOCUS ON THE FAMILY episode. James Dobson was talking about a getaway with his wife that he took to “finish a book.” I remember thinking how nice that “would” be SOMEDAY. Are you thinking the same thing? Well, sweet friends, you are HERE TODAY! THIS can be one of your getaways! YOU CAN DO IT! :)

Want to stay motivated? Want to stay productive? Want to stay on track? Want to keep your year on track? You are going to need regular getaways!

It might not be an exotic location.
It may not be to a cabin for a month.
BUT! YOU CAN GETAWAY!

How about an afternoon at the park? Kick back under a tree and just enjoy the time planning, journaling, dreaming while your little ones scamper about???

How about a morning breakfast with God? At a restaurant? On your deck? On your front porch? In your own bed? :)

How about a time away at a coffee shop? Just YOU, your Bible, your journal???

How about a hotel for the weekend (or night)?

How about a vacation cabin/condo?

ON AND ON….

You can do it! Here are some things that help me to carve it out of my life:
1. Make the time!
2. INVEST!
3. Focus--Know what you want to do and just do that! Leave the STUFF at home!
4. ENJOY!
5. Getaway! To plan! To Hear God!  To Brainstorm! To Work with Focus! To Get it Done!

Carve out some time to getaway. It will fire you back up. It will help you to be refreshed, renewed, refilled, and recommitted to the call. Sweet friend, getaway regularly!!

MOTIVATE YOURSELF–INVEST IN YOURSELF!

A while back I read a passage in the Bible that cut me to the core. Paul asked the probing question, “You who teach others, do you not teach yourselves?”

Anybody saying, “OUCH” with me?

We cannot operate on empty! We cannot do it in our own strength! We have limits, self imposed limits, that are based upon how much we invest in ourselves. Do we SAY we love others, but neglect ourselves? We CAN’T! We can’t love them any more than we love ourselves! If we do not invest in ourselves, we will not have anything to offer others. EVERYONE SUFFERS!

Felt it?
1. Burned out?
2. The well runs dry?
3. Get foggy thinking?
4. Lose that enthusiasm, excitement, passion, and motivation.
5. And, worst of all, we don’t live a life that counts! We just settle for so much less!

This is easy to remediate–just invest in yourself! It is not an extra, it is ESSENTIAL! Anyone who says different is a liar. Jesus HIMSELF took time away in the midst of the busy demands of ministry and discipleship to invest in himself–to take good care of himself. How much MORE do we need to?

Make it a commitment! Make it a lifestyle! What do I mean by INVEST IN YOURSELF? Well, here are some things that I have committed to do for myself:

1. Read! Read Widely!
2. Study–learn something new! Dig deep!
3. Connect with Others–Learn from them, teach them what you know, learn with them, invest in them, let them invest in you!
4. LIVE–NOW!
5. Find things to refresh and renew!
6. Make time to RECREATE!
7. And, most importantly, take time with God!

It is NOT an extra! It is ESSENTIAL! Be intentional about investing in yourself!

Well, sweet friend, this is YOUR year! You have the very best months ahead! Get motivated! Get moving! This is your year to be productive! This is your year to grasp on to all that Christ died to give you! What are you going to do with it? How are you going to keep yourself on track? How are you going to stay motivated? Share with us here….

Is Your Year On Track??? Work with Momentum!

Good morning sweet friends! How is your day going? I pray that it is going SUPER!

Ready to dig into Day 5 of our series? Oh! This is one of my big secrets to staying on track and getting the most important things done each year, each month, each day! Of course, before we dig in, if this is your first time checking out our site, we are in the middle of a series called, IS YOUR YEAR ON TRACK???  Don’t miss the first posts. I think that they will be a big encouragement to you. Here are the links where you can find each of them:

1, SET YOUR PACE
2. LIVE
3. BALANCE!

4. OVERCOME OBSTACLES

Also, don’t just read them, dig in deep. Let’s chat about your takeaways and how you are planning to apply these posts. Deal?

Ok! Let’s dig into today’s point…

5. WORK WITH MOMENTUM!!

So often I am asked how I get so much done. Trust me, I do not always FEEL like I am getting a lot done. Most of the time, I FEEL like so many of you–wondering how to get things done when there are constant interruptions, so many things pulling at me, and I run out of steam so easily. Yes! Does that surprise you? :)

I have those moments that I get very, very stuck. Just had one this morning. I realized that my “feed” for my Mom-to-Mom Radio Show has not been working right. Even NOW, my brain is a bit distracted because I cannot figure out what is going on with the feed. There is a strong, strong temptation to drop what I had on my heart to do (share here) and go chase that rabbit. Of course, I KNOW what will happen, I will get bogged down trying to figure out what is going on and I will get stuck, I won’t get the things that really matter to me done. Yes, I am human! I DO get stuck! I DO chase rabbits! I DO get distracted!

Now, YOUR rabbits may not be the same as mine OR they may be. But, how do we stay focused, stay on track, and get things that matter DONE?

You have got it! We work with momentum!

Oh! This is one of my biggest secrets. You are going to LOVE this! I really think that it will help you to get started on the right track and stay on track this year. Ready? Let’s dig in…

1.  Get started with that FIRST STEP!

What is on your heart to do this year? Did you have any resolutions? What are they? Are you getting them done?

I know, I know. There is something about looking at that great big THING that scares us, frustrates us, overwhelms us. But, do you know how you eat an elephant? One-bite-at-a-time! How do you get things done–THE BIG THINGS? One-step-at-a-time!

Today, I am not asking you to write a book or even a chapter.

Today, I am not asking you to clean all day.

Today, I am not asking you to rebuild your whole marriage.

Today, I am not asking you to undo all of the mistakes you have made with your children.

Today, I am not asking you to do miracles in your finances.

Today, I am not asking you to stop eating all of your favorite foods and hang out at the gym all day.

Today, I am just asking you to take that FIRST STEP toward what you want!

Yes, that FIRST STEP!

What is it? What do you really want? Do you want to get to June and look back with that disgusting feeling in your stomach that things COULD have been different? What about October–do you want to come to October and once again just resolve to get started again with the fresh new year?

NOT THIS YEAR!!!

I don’t know when you are reading this, but TODAY is where we will begin. We will begin with this step, this choice, this bite, this moment.

This next step is where momentum begins. So, get started with that FIRST STEP!

2. Keep on moving!

This may seem simple, but productivity, success, and living out your life purpose IS really simple. You just get started with that first step and then you keep on moving  step-by-step.

No, you will not know ALL of your steps right now. But, I can promise that if you are walking in the spirit, you WILL know each step to take all along the way.  God will show you. He will be there to light the path. Just keep on moving!

3. Refuse to Get Bogged Down!

Now, THIS is the tricky part! I mentioned earlier that RIGHT NOW, I have something that I really need to do. It is important. Actually, it is a FIRE that does need to be put out TODAY. :) Of course, I already have this commitment and another (lunch with my husband) that are on my schedule and come first. SURE! I could drop this and maybe even lunch and put that fire out but, that would bog me down in two ways:

1. “Fires” in our day have a way of “burning out of control” and taking WAY MORE EFFORT than we ever dreamed. In fact, we can live our entire lives “putting out fires” and never get the most important things done–the things that really count, the things that really matter.

2. When I chase after the fires, it just weighs me down and bogs me down by not getting the things done that really matter. Then, it feels like it “bottle-necks” everything. I feel like I am having to squeeze everything past a tiny spot to get past THAT place. I hope this makes sense. I am amazed that when I refuse to let myself get bogged down how things just normally flow easier and I get sooo much more done.

Have you felt that? Wondering, what do you do about that?

–>  KNOW what your priorities are! Stick to them first and foremost!

–>  When STUFF pops up, crisis situations happen, or you see the “fires” raging, just add that thing to your to-do list. Keep moving with what you are doing. Do it when other things are DONE! NOTE: If you don’t do this, you will find that your days are ALWAYS interrupted with things that need to be done. You will also find that everytime you get started with one thing, you are pulled to those crisis situation, the STUFF, and the FIRES and you will end up with lots of STARTS, lots of good intentions, and lots of things left unfinished.

–>  ALWAYS finish!! Don’t let yourself get bogged down and never finish. Plug away until it is done. It is amazing how much momentum we build just by FINISHING one thing–then, we are fired up and ready for the next thing! If you have anything unfinished, pull it out, dust it off, and dig back in. FINISH! Feel that exhilaration! It will push you onward!

4. Let Your Passion Push!!

Yes! Each step you take brings passion. Each accomplishment brings even more passion. So, take those steps step-by-step until you get things done. Again, it is truly amazing how much momentum we build as we step forward bit-by-bit. I have noticed this with running. Each goal I set may not be big, but it is moving forward. Talk about firing me up! Just last night I did not run far, but I surpassed my goal for the night and kept going. Talk about “Wooohoooing” it! I was fired up about running all night long. And, that passion pushes to do the next thing. See what I mean?

Step out. Take that first step. Then, the next one. Keep moving bit-by-bit and you will get to the finish! And, there, want to know what you will have?

Success!
Accomplishment!
More passion!
AND…momentum to reach for another dream!

Let your passion fire you up! Let your passion loose to inspire you all along the way. And, let your passion push you toward success!

5. Finally, Always Keep rolling!

I know that there are going to be times when we derail. I know that there are going to be times that we get off track. I know that there are going to be times that we get stuck. I HAVE THOSE TIMES TOO! :)

During those times, we simply must be realistic. We do need to slow down and take care of ourselves and situations in our lives. BUT! Don’t get stuck there!

Soak that in!

Don’t let THAT be the pattern of your life! Don’t live in overwhelm! Don’t live in the pit! christ died to bring us freedom. While we will experience pits, we don’t stay there! While we do experience the fires just like others, we don’t LIVE there! While we do have curve balls, we don’t have to strike out!

When tough times come, slow down and let God take you through those times. And, on the other side, get back up and get moving! Keep rolling! Don’t get stuck! Just keep on rolling strong!

Well, sweet friend, as we wrap up, what will you takeaway from this time together? Was there a reminder that you may have forgotten? Did you learn something that will help you to build momentum? Share it below. There is nothing like WRITING IT to set that in our hearts and minds. Join with me to reach for our dreams together this year. I am cheering you on!!

Practicing Christian Principles in Your Business by Laurie Neumann

Practicing Christian Principles in Your Business
by Laurie Neumann
http://www.ChristianHomeBusinessConnection.com

Practicing good Christian business principles is essential to having a business that honors God.  As a Christian business owner, don’t you want God to be pleased with how you do business?  After all, your business is a gift from God, and it is only right that you run it in a way that gives Him honor.

As you look around today at businesses, especially those on the internet, I think you will find many that do not adhere to Christian business principles.  They may not even know what they are.  You will see businesses that make false claims or are run in way that is totally self-serving.  Not to mention all the scams that take people’s money and promise them things that they cannot follow through with.  It’s very sad.

However, we have a chance to be different and to stand out from the rest in our business dealings.  Don’t ever think that your business is separate from the rest of your life and doesn’t need to follow Christian principles.  This is not so.

We need to be honest and fair when we are dealing with others in our business, whether it be customers or employees.  We should treat them with kindness and respect and go the extra mile to help them.  Offering excellent customer service is a basic Christian business practice that you should consider.  Don’t be surprised if you see your business take off as a result.

Other business principles that we, as Christians, should be exhibiting are looking out for others’ needs, even at the expense of making a sale.  If we cannot give a customer what they really need, we should be happy to recommend another product or solution. “Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” Philippians 2:4

Giving is another area where we can please God with our business.  God wants us to share and help each other when there is a need.  Giving part of the income from your business is one way you can be obedient and help others in the process.  However, don’t let people take advantage of you.  Some people believe that, as Christians, we should give everything away and not make money on it.  I do not believe this is Biblical.

Adopting good Christian business principles will not only honor God, but will also bless your business.

Think Positive Live Positive

http://www.cindysdesktop.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/MomWriting.jpgPositive thinking may sound like mumbo-jumbo to some people, but other people firmly believe in it.  Positive thinking is the act of staying optimistic, even when faced with difficulties or challenges.

Staying positive, even in the face of adversity, can help you conquer challenges.  When you think positively, you are envisioning your success.  Failure will not be an option; you will move past the obstacles in your way.  When a person thinks positively, they will attract positive people and positive outcomes in their life.

When you find yourself facing a roadblock, try to find a way around it.  It can be easy to give up.  Giving up will not bring you any closer to accomplishing your goals.  In fact, giving up can make you feel even worse and cause more stress.

Finding a way to forge ahead and reach your goal or accomplish your task will help you grow as a person.  You will feel more confident and able to take on new, more difficult challenges. [Read more...]

Ready for a Business Coach???

http://www.cindysdesktop.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/MomWriting.jpgOften times we actually know the steps we need to take with our business, but systemizing those steps into “do-able” chunks can be a lot more difficult. There are also many “small” questions that come up as we build our business, and having someone to turn to can be a great help. Even just having a person to run your idea by for vetting can be a life saver. In these situations, one-to-one coaching can really help.

How do you decide if coaching can benefit you? Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

#1 – Could I use an impartial person to run my ideas by?

Your friends and family may be great to turn to for help, but remember they are slightly biased. You have heard it said that they will tell you what you want to hear–this is not the time for that! Even if they gave great ideas, it doesn’t help if they don’t specifically understand the inner dealings or your business or market.

Having an impartial person dissect your ideas and plans can be very beneficial, particularly if that person is in your field and has already achieved the success you hope to achieve. [Read more...]

Getting Started (or RE-STARTED) Blogging!

The image “http://www.cindyrushton.com/images/Cindy2.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.Blogging. Ready to begin your own blog, but totally overwhelmed? Not sure where to begin or even what to do? Have no idea of how to get started (or restarted) on the right track? Well, dear friend, this article is FOR YOU! Let me take you by the hand and share some ideas that have worked for me…

1. Get a vision. First things first. Who are you? What are YOU all about? What is YOUR message? When others come to you, what do they ask you? Take some time to really think this one out.  Your blog will only be a success when you find YOUR voice. Pull apart and get a vision. Keep your blog simple, clear, uncluttered, and focused. Stick to who you are. Don’t change up every day. Don’t add in content that does not go along with your message. Get a vision for what you are to be all about and be ONLY that.

2. Set it up right.
Don’t take short-cuts. If you want to build a successful business, invest in your “home on the web.” This is not an area to skimp by or put off. [Read more...]

Where to Use Your Logo for Maximum Results

The image “http://www.talk-a-latte.com/ebooks/MomOnline.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.Think the only place a business logo can be used is on your website and business card?  Not true.  There are many creative and effective places to use your business logo for maximum results.

Let’s begin by looking at the basic or ordinary places you can place your logo:

- Your website. This is kind of a no brainer. If you don’t have your logo on your website then where to you use it?  Your website is quite often the first place people become aware of your business – it’s their first memory and your first opportunity to brand your business.

- Your blog. Again, this is a chance to link your blog brand with your website brand.

- Your business cards. Business cards are becoming less and less common however you still don’t know when you’re going to run into your next great customer.  Keep a few up to date business cards in your wallet and make sure they have your logo on them. [Read more...]

How To Create A "Buyers Only" List by Jimmy D. Brown

http://writers-nook.com/images/JDBrown.jpgHow To Create A “Buyers Only” List
By Jimmy D. Brown
http://Writers-Nook.com/PLRSO.html

Content is king. It gets to wear the crown. And sit on the throne. And rule the world. When it comes to establishing credibility, gaining trust and producing sales, content is royalty.

While I would never suggest abandoning the concept of delivering high quality content to your subscribers, there is another type of list composed of subscribers who couldn’t care less about content.

“What is this type of list?” you ask.

- > The “announcement list.”

I’ve been teaching about the “announcement” list since at least 2002 (on record at an event). And, yet, it’s a widely untapped asset in most email marketing circles.

The main reason is: nobody’s teaching it. And so, nobody knows anything about it, let alone how to effectively create one of these lists. [Read more...]

Yes! Writers MUST Learn About Graphics!

The image “http://www.talk-a-latte.com/ebooks/MomOnline.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. You may not realize it, but graphics are everywhere.  They’re on the packaging of practically every product you find in a store, on businesses’ promotional materials, and on web pages.  Quality graphics are important to a business’ image.

Graphic design is defined as any discipline which focuses on visual communication and presentation.  It can be the creation of an original font that is used to create a logo, a pictograph used on a road sign, or a cartoon character used in promotional materials.  Even the arrangement of shapes and use of complementing colors on a package of cookies is considered graphic design.

The History of Graphic Design

Although graphic design today is commonly associated with computers, it existed long before they did.  Cave drawings could be considered graphic design by its strictest definition.  But graphic design did not become a discipline until some time after the invention of printing. [Read more...]

It's a NEW YEAR! Get a NEW Commitment!

The image “http://www.talk-a-latte.com/ebooks/MomOnline.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.Becoming an entrepreneur requires a certain amount of drive and enthusiasm.  If we didn’t believe in ourselves and our businesses, we would still be working for someone else.  But when the going gets tough, it’s easy to lose sight of why we started in the first place.  This can cause us to become unmotivated, and it could be the demise of the business we’ve worked so hard to build if we’re not careful.

Businesses are like relationships:  commitment is an absolute must if they are to succeed.  Here are some tips for staying focused and pulling through the hard times.

* Write a mission statement if you haven’t done so already. It should concisely detail the purpose of your business and its key philosophies.  Many entrepreneurs neglect to do this unless it is required to obtain funding.  But a mission statement can help you remember why you wanted to start a business in the first place. Writing for SEO Without Losing Readability

The image “http://www.talk-a-latte.com/ebooks/MomOnline.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.Copywriting is one significant factor when you want to achieve excellent search engine ranking. Yet, a lot of times website owners think that all that they have to do is to incorporate keywords in page tags and include some keyword mentions in their articles. While SEO copywriting not exceedingly hard, writing for search engines is more complex than that.

“Search engine optimization copywriting” or SEO, is a method of writing viewable or easily scanned text on your web page which is very acceptable and readable for the internet user as well as targets certain or exact search terms, having the purpose of ranking high in search engines.

How to Make Your Blog More Appealing to Your Readers

The image “http://www.talk-a-latte.com/ebooks/MomOnline.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.Every blogger who earns income from their blog knows that the only way you can make money is by getting and keeping the traffic coming. Without your readers, you wouldn’t be making money at all.

There are lots of ways to get them there, but the question is – how do you keep them returning? If a reader isn’t impressed by your blog at all, then they’ll leave your blog, never to return again.

With them goes their blog’s traffic that you could’ve benefited from if they’d linked to you. Here are some tips to make your blog appealing enough to keep the traffic there to earn you some money.

Evaluate Your Design!

The most common mistake some bloggers make is in their blog’s design. Blog readers not only look for interesting and informative content – they also want to come to an inviting space to read it. [Read more...]

Journaling? DO IT TODAY! By Cindy Rushton

http://www.CindyRushton.com/images/Cindy2.jpgJournaling?

Oh! Don’t feel bad if your answer is “NO” right now. (at least until the end of this post!)

I just got the most AMAZING journal as a gift. A friend of mine sent my entire family a journal each. Not just ANY journal either! Designer journals! It was such a treat. Not just because they were special designer journals. Rather, it was more because of what was going on in MY HEART right before she sent them. Well, you may need a bit of background!

I have always kept notebooks, journals, and idea books. But, I have not been journaling. GASP!?

No, something deep within has hindered me from journaling. Was it reading Anne Frank’s diary in school? Ugh…well, probably…I remember thinking that IF we were being required to read her diary…then…ugh…I might not ever want to journal MY THOUGHTS…they could be at risk! Insane huh? ha!

It might be more than that!

There is something else just a bit deeper that has kept me from journaling. Actually a few things!

First, valuing my own thoughts! For real! Journaling is an investment. It is an investment of time and money. Something deep within me has held me back from preserving those thoughts. They are so rambly (is that a possible word???)…they say things that I am not sure I want in print…they have no specific focus…they lack any refinement. With all of that said, see my dilemma with investing my time to journal them down? See my dilemma with placing THOSE thoughts into a beautiful journal?

Second, fearing my thoughts!
Scare you yet? No, I am just like you! I get SOOOooo mad at my in-laws. I get so frustrated parenting. I get PMS. I battle fears (obviously!). And…that is not all! I also get TOTALLY hyped up over things that God blesses me with. Truth here? Yep! I get afraid that journaling my thoughts just might make me “sound” manic! hehe! Oh, yet another dilemma that hinders me from journaling!

And…ugh…TOO BUSY!
Enough said? Well…this one just wasn’t a good enough reason, but it was probably one of the largest hindrances to journaling! Getting so busy with so many things–many of which are very insignificant compared to the riches of journaling. Yet, the very things that get done!

Excuses. Excuses. Excuses!

Can you believe I write ANY books and articles? These are the same things that hinder some of you from writing!

Yep! I battle with the same things that YOU battle against!

BUT! ONE THING is needful!

We all NEED to journal!

Journaling is especially necessary for the very reasons that I have not been journaling! I need to journal! YOU need to journal! Why?

Journaling processes our thoughts, feelings, and emotions. It pulls them out of the deep recesses of our mind. Once it is on paper, we can literally disect our thoughts and see the hidden jewels in there! Totally necessary for the Christian writer! Actually, journaling is one of the most essential disciplines for the Christian writer. In a journal, a writer can brainstorm…outline…collect ideas…and work out a manuscript. Humm…only our enemy of our soul would want to discourage such a discipline!

Which brings me back to this amazing gift!

Just the day before the journal arrived, I was sitting with my family in a bookstore just pondering a million and one thoughts. I saw the cutest little journals just within eye-range. I sat there thinking, “WOW! It would be a great time of my life to begin journaling! There is SOOOo much going on in my mind. I really need to put these thoughts on paper.” Then, my brain kept racing…”Maybe I can invest in a journal JUST for these thoughts…BUT (you know where this is going!)…they cost soooo much…I would mess those pretty journals up with my crazy thoughts….” FOR REAL! And…I discounted the whole idea away.

The mail came the next day with all of the every day stuff–except a very precious box. As I opened it up, all I could do was cry. God had moved in my friend’s heart to have a journal sent to me. BUT, not just ANY journal! A designer journal! YEP! FOR REAL! It is one of the most beautiful journals I have ever seen!

Heather invested IN ME!

Words truly are so insufficient to capture what has gone on in my heart every since!

My first reactions were…”NOW THIS ONE *REALLY* IS TOO PRETTY TO USE!” (it is!) But, God moved on my heart immediately to say, “Cindy, Heather wanted to bless you and you can do nothing less than pour into this journal your heart!”

So, there it is! The beginning of MY journal!

My first entry included this (no worries to MY mind–I am not typing in EVERYTHING!),

“…Another thing that this gift does is convict me about journaling. Do you think Heather knew that there is so much on my heart and I just needed to pour it into a good friend? My first response was so wrong–”Oh! It’s too pretty to use with what *I* think and feel!” HELLO! Yep! I am a writer–80+ books–100′s of articles–and yet can it be that I do not value my own heart cries? My own exhilaration? My own walk with you? My own wisdom? Well this journal is too beautiful and too dear to NOT write in! To not record these precious days! Goodness my life is pivoting on the edge right now–I am walking into a Great Big Place! You, beloved journal, get to be my friend and host of all that desperately needs to be poured forth! Ready? Meet ya soon! Cindy”

So…all of this “ado” to bring me to a question for you….

Journaling?

Beloved, are you journaling? Are you clinging to your excuses?

Today is the day! Invest in your new friend today! Nurture your heart! Nurture your creativity! Nurture your brain! You will never be the same!

Ohhhh!

Journaling! Do it TODAY!

k—try creating a mind-map, making a list of what you want to cover, or jotting down chapters or sections of your book. If other thoughts come to mind, write them down as fast as possible. Keep jotting down ideas as they come. Do not censor your thoughts. That is for later!

* Look back over your ideas.
Choose your subtopics (your chapters/sections of your book). These should support your main topic/theme.

* Under each subtopic, go back and fit in any points to be covered (in each chapter/section).
The more ideas under each section, the better your details (although that is not necessary) Your details will become your paragraphs and sentences in your chapters.

* You are ready to write!

Let's Create a Mind-Map! by Cindy Rushton

http://www.CindyRushton.com/images/Cindy2.jpgA mind-map is a fun and easy way to brainstorm ideas of what you want to cover in your book and to develop your topic so you include everything that is on your heart! It is a great technique for getting what you know or what you should share in your book on paper. It is a great way to get rid of that Writer’s Block and get going! Give it a try…

* Carry a notebook with you just for brainstorming/mindmapping.
* Draw a circle in the middle of a piece of paper. Inside of that circle, write down your topic.
* Without censoring yourself, quickly jot down related ideas and thoughts that come to mind. Enclose each in a circle, and draw a line to the original topic. If those trigger ideas, jot those down attached to the idea that triggers those extra ideas.
* Go back through deciding what you will use in your story/outline. Use ideas to generate your subtopics and details covered in your books.
* Keep your mind-map. You may need extra ideas later!
